On 30 January 2026, Indian Railways commissioned 472 route kilometres of Kavach Version 4.0 across three key sections, marking a major milestone in rail safety. The newly commissioned sections include 344 km from Vadodara to Virar (Western Railway), 35 km from Tuglakabad Junction Cabin to Palwal (Northern Railway), and 93.3 km from Manpur to Sarmatanr (East Central Railway).
This achievement represents the highest-ever Kavach commissioning in a single day as well as in a single month. With this addition, Kavach Version 4.0 now covers over 1,300 route kilometres across five routes of the Indian Railways network. The Ministry of Railways stated that this expansion reflects India’s continued focus on strengthening train protection, operational safety, and reliability, especially on high-density corridors.
About Kavach System
Kavach is India’s indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, designed to prevent train collisions and enhance overall railway safety. It is capable of automatically applying brakes in situations such as signal passing at danger (SPAD), overspeeding, and potential collisions.
