Arab Parties in Israel Back Gadi Eisenkot for Prime Minister

On 5 November 2026, an alliance of Arab political parties in Israel, including the Ra’am party, backed Yashar party leader Gadi Eisenkot as their choice for Prime Minister, securing recommendations from 67 of the 120 Knesset members.

  • The support includes 11 lawmakers from the Joint List and 8 members of Ra’am, putting Eisenkot ahead of incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whose bloc has 53 seats.
  • President Isaac Herzog has begun consultations with political parties and will invite the candidate most likely to form a government.
  • The selected candidate will get 28 days, with a possible 14-day extension, to form a coalition. Failure could lead to another election.
