Cabinet approves eight railway multitracking projects worth over 20,800 crore rupees to boost connectivity
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved eight railway multitracking projects worth over 20 thousand 800 crore rupees across nine states on 9 September 2026.
- The projects will cover around 1,196 km and are expected to improve rail connectivity, ease congestion on existing routes and facilitate faster movement of passengers and freight.

UIDAI launches new software to simplify Aadhaar Authentication
The Unique Identification Authority of India, UIDAI, has launched a new Face Authentication Software Development Kit to simplify Aadhaar authentication for partner institutions and address geofencing restrictions affecting Indians travelling or living overseas on 9 September 2026.

Thailand allows visa-free entry and stay up to 30 days for Indian tourists
The Ministry of Interior of Thailand has said that Indian tourists holding ordinary passports are exempt from visa requirements and permitted to stay in Thailand not exceeding 30 days on 9 September 2026.
- The exemption will be implemented with effect from 15 of this month.
India, Sri Lanka ink MoU on upgradation of L70 Guns for Lankan Air Force
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who is on visit to Sri Lanka, today called on President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in Colombo and discussed the entire spectrum of the multi-faceted partnership between India and Sri Lanka on 9 September 2026.
- During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed that India and Sri Lanka will keep working jointly to ensure the safety, security, peace and prosperity of the region.
- President Dissanayake reiterated that Sri Lanka would never allow its territory to be used for any activities inimical to India’s security interests.

Dr. Vinaya Prakash Singh Re-elected APPU Secretary-General for Second Consecutive Term
Vinaya Prakash Singh, a 1988 batch officer of the Indian Postal Service, has been re-elected as Secretary-General of the Asian-Pacific Postal Union (APPU) for a second consecutive four-year term.
- He was declared elected unopposed by acclamation at the 14th APPU Congress held in Bangkok on September 4, 2026.
- His re-election reflects the confidence and consensus of postal administrations across the Asia-Pacific region in his leadership and is a significant recognition of India’s contribution to international postal cooperation.
- His second term will commence in January 2027 and continue until December 2030.
- Vinaya Prakash Singh, Secretary-General, Asian-Pacific Postal Union (APPU) The re-election comes at a time when the APPU continues to play an important role in strengthening postal cooperation across the Asia-Pacific region.

Union Minister of State (I/C) for Ayush and Union Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, addressed the Curtain Raiser Press Conference for the 11th Ayurveda Day 2026 at the National Media Centre, New Delhi.
- The event marked the commencement of the nationwide campaign leading up to Ayurveda Day.
- The main Ayurveda Day celebrations will be held on 23 September 2026 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, with “Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow” ‘स्वस्थ भविष्य के लिए आयुर्वेद ’ as its theme, reflecting the vision of connecting India’s rich Ayurvedic heritage with the evolving healthcare needs of the future.
- In his address, Union Minister Shri Prataprao Jadhav highlighted that the world is increasingly looking towards preventive healthcare, healthy lifestyles, nutrition, wellness and holistic health, areas where which India has a rich tradition and experience.
- He emphasized that Ayurveda Day is not merely an occasion to celebrate India’s heritage, but an opportunity to connect this heritage with the health requirements of the future.
