Angh, directed by Naga filmmaker, wins Platform Prize 2026 at TIFF
In a historic first, Angh, directed by Naga filmmaker Theja Rio, has won the Platform Prize 2026 at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
- Angh was one of 12 films selected for this year’s platform programme, the TIFF’s only competitive section.
- Beginning with the 2026 prize, winning the TIFF Platform Prize gives a non-English-language film a direct pathway to eligibility for consideration for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.
- Rio said he came from a small part of Northeast India, where, he noted, dreams do not often come true for his people.

- Instituted in 1954 , they are conferred every year by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
- The 72nd National Film Awards honour achievements in Indian cinema for the year 2024.
- The President of India will present the awards on 22 September 2026 at Ekta Nagar (formerly Kevadia), in Gujarat .

Gwalior to get Asia’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone with ₹5,500 crore investment
On Sunday, Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia inspected the site identified for the proposed TMZ at Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Counter Magnet City (SADA) in Gwalior, along with the Secretary, Department of Telecommunications, and other senior officials on 21 September 2026.
- Around 170 acres of land has been identified for the first phase of the proposed TMZ, including more than 90 acres in SADA and over 70 acres in the IT Park, according to the ministry.
- The Department of Telecommunications and the Madhya Pradesh government signed an MoU in July 2026 for establishing the TMZ.
- The Delhi roadshow attracted investment commitments of approximately ₹3,500 crore, with the potential to generate around 14,000 employment opportunities, while the Mumbai roadshow attracted commitments of approximately ₹2,000 crore, with around 4,000 employment opportunities, the Ministry said.

INDIA – SRI LANKA ANNUAL BILATERAL MARITIME EXERCISE (SLINEX-26)
The 13th edition of the Sri Lanka-India bilateral maritime exercise, SLINEX-26, is being conducted at Visakhapatnam from 17 to 21 Sep 26.
- INS Kavaratti, an indigenous Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette, and INS Jyoti, the Fleet Tanker, will participate from the Indian Navy, while SLNS Sindurala represents the Sri Lanka Navy.
- Conceptualised in 2005, SLINEX has evolved into an important forum for fostering maritime cooperation, interoperability and mutual understanding between the two Navies.
- Aligned with India’s vision of MAHASAGAR, SLINEX-26 reinforces India’s commitment to a secure, stable and inclusive maritime environment and further consolidates the enduring maritime partnership between India and Sri Lanka.

India win silver in men’s 10m air rifle team; Rudrankksh, Himanshu make individual final

Suchika Tariyal wins historic MMA bronze for India at Asian Games

- Tariyal had reached the semifinals after a composed 2-0 victory over Mongolia’s Altanchimeg Baigalmaa in the quarterfinals on Sunday, becoming the first Indian athlete to secure an Asian Games medal in MMA.
- A national-level judoka, Tariyal represented India at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where she reached the bronze-medal bout, before competing in kurash at the 2023 Asian Games.
- She later established herself at the top level of Jiu-Jitsu, winning a world title in fighting Jiu-Jitsu in 2024.
