FICCI FRAMES 2026 will begin in Mumbai today.
- The theme of this year’s FICCI FRAMES is “India’s Media Moment: Creating Value in an Age of Infinite Content.” Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat will deliver the inaugural address of the FICCI FRAMES 2026.

India’s IIP growth rises to 8% in August 2026
India’s industrial output, as measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), grew by 8% year-on-year in August this year on 28 September 2026.
- The latest data indicate that industrial activity continued to expand at a healthy pace, with the upward revision in July’s IIP growth to 7.4% from the earlier estimate of 6.7%.

India showcases Forest and Landscape Restoration Initiatives at COFO 28, in Rome
India highlighted its significant achievement in forest and landscape restoration and reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable forest management, climate action and resilient forest landscapes at the Twenty-eighth Session of the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) Committee on Forestry (COFO 28), being held in Rome from 28 th September to 2 nd October 2026.
- Delivering its Statement during COFO 28, India welcomed FAO’s focus on Forest and Landscape Restoration, and emphasised that sustainable forest management provides an integrated framework for addressing restoration at the landscape level while responding to national circumstances and the needs of local communities.
- The FAO Global Forest Resources Assessment 2025 ranks India 9 th globally in forest area and 3 rd in net annual forest area gain.
- India has created an additional carbon sink of 2.29 billion tonnes of CO₂ equivalent by 2021 and has enhanced its ambition to create an additional carbon sink of 3.5–4.0 billion tonnes of CO₂ equivalent by 2035, compared with 2005 levels.

US waives tariff on specialty drugs imported from India and 19 other countries
The US will not charge any tariff on certain speciality drugs and associated ingredients used for the treatment of rare medical conditions imported from India and 19 other countries on 29 September 2026.
- The US Commerce Department published the list of countries in the Federal Register as it prepares to impose a 100 per cent tariff on certain patented pharmaceutical imports and their associated ingredients from September 29.
- On April 2, President Donald Trump issued a proclamation to impose tariffs on imports of patented pharmaceuticals, biologics, and associated ingredients into the US as part of efforts to encourage domestic production.
- The exemptions are part of the implementation of Trump’s April proclamation adjusting imports of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical ingredients under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act.

J&K Assembly Passes Resolution for Immediate Restoration of Full Statehood
In Jammu and Kashmir, the Legislative Assembly today passed a resolution seeking the immediate restoration of full statehood to the Union Territory on 28 September 2026.
- The resolution was moved by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and was passed by voice vote after a debate in the House.
60-member Indian Armed Forces contingent departs for KAZIND-2026 in Kazakhstan
A 60-member Indian Armed Forces contingent departed for Oskemen in Kazakhstan to participate in the ninth edition of the India-Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise KAZIND-2026.
- The Defence Ministry said that the exercise aims to enhance interoperability and strengthen the joint capability of both forces to undertake joint counter-terrorism operations in a sub-conventional environment under a United Nations mandate.
- The exercise is scheduled to continue until the 11th of next month.
- The Ministry also said that the exercise will further deepen military-to-military cooperation between India and Kazakhstan.
India Energy Week 2027 Sets the Stage for Global Energy Dialogue in Kolkata
As India’s energy demand continues to grow amid a rapidly shifting global energy landscape, the technologies, partnerships and strategic choices shaping the future of energy will be at the forefront of India Energy Week (IEW) 2027.
- Held under the patronage of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, India Energy Week has grown rapidly since its debut in Bengaluru in 2023, expanding in scale, international participation and the breadth of issues addressed.
- Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Hardeep Singh Puri along with Chief Minister of West Bengal Shri Suvendu Adhikari formally announced Kolkata as the host city for India Energy Week 2027.
- Shri Adhikari thanked Shri Puri and the Petroleum & Natural Gas Ministry for bringing IEW 2027 to West Bengal.

SC asks Centre to consider exempting Class 6 students from CBSE’s three-language policy
The Supreme Court has directed the Centre and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to consider extending to the current Class 6 students the exemption from the three-language framework that has been granted to students of Class 7 on 29 September 2026.
- A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, appearing for the Centre and the CBSE, to grant the same relaxation granted to students of Classes 7, 8 and 9 to students of Class 6 this year.
- On September 17, the top court had asked the CBSE to consider implementing its policy mandating the study of three languages, including two native Indian languages, for Class 6 students from the next academic session starting in 2027.
- The dispute relates to the CBSE’s decision to align its scheme of studies with the National Education Policy, 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education, 2023.
