Belgian-American particle physicist Francis Halzen was awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics on 6 October 2026 for his decisive contributions to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin.
The prize is awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and carries a total prize amount of 12 million Swedish kronor.
The Nobel Prize in Physics is one of the highest honours in the field and recognises discoveries that have significantly advanced our understanding of the physical universe.
The 2026 Physics Nobel was the second Nobel Prize announced this year, following the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. The Nobel medals will be presented in Stockholm on 10 December 2026.
