📜 History of Hindi Diwas
- Constituent Assembly Decision (14 September 1949): After intense debates on India’s linguistic diversity, leaders like K.M. Munshi and N. Gopalaswami Ayyangar reached the Munshi–Ayyangar compromise, declaring Hindi in Devanagari script as the official language of the Union.
- Constitutional Provision: Incorporated in Article 343 (Part XVII) of the Indian Constitution. It also allowed English to continue for official purposes for 15 years, later extended under the Official Languages Act, 1963.
- First Celebration: Initiated by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in 1953, making 14 September an annual observance.
