On 7 July 2026, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto conferred the Bintang Adipurna (Star of the Republic of Indonesia, First Class), Indonesia’s highest state honour, on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Istana Merdeka Presidential Palace in Jakarta.
Instituted in 1959, the Bintang Adipurna is Indonesia’s highest civilian and military honour. It is awarded to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to Indonesia or to foreign leaders who have significantly strengthened international friendship and cooperation.
The insignia features a gold star with the Garuda Pancasila, Indonesia’s national emblem, and is worn with a red-and-white ceremonial sash.
Accepting the award, PM Modi dedicated the honour to the people of India and described it as a symbol of the historic friendship and strong ties between India and Indonesia. The award further adds to his list of prestigious international state honours.
