Police Commemoration Day – 21 October 2026

Police Commemoration Day is observed on 21 October 2026 across India to honour police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty while protecting the nation and maintaining law and order.

The day commemorates the sacrifice of 10 police personnel who were killed in an ambush by heavily armed Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh, on 21 October 1959. The decision to observe 21 October as Police Commemoration Day was taken at the Conference of Inspectors General of Police in January 1960.

Special initiative in 2026: Amit Shah will flag off a nationwide motorcycle rally themed “Fight Against Drugs”. Police riders from States and Union Territories, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and other central police organisations will participate. The riders will proceed to Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, to join the Ekta Parade on 31 October 2026.
