Which Buddhist site was inscribed as India’s 45th UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 2026?

On 25 July 2026, Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List during the 48th Session of the World Heritage Committee held in Busan, South Korea. With this recognition, Sarnath became India's 45th UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sarnath is one of Buddhism's holiest places, where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon (Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta) after attaining enlightenment.
25 जुलाई 2026 को उत्तर प्रदेश के सारनाथ को दक्षिण कोरिया के बुसान (Busan) में आयोजित यूनेस्को विश्व धरोहर समिति (World Heritage Committee) के 48वें सत्र के दौरान यूनेस्को विश्व धरोहर सूची में शामिल किया गया। इसके साथ ही सारनाथ भारत का 45वाँ यूनेस्को विश्व धरोहर स्थल बन गया। सारनाथ बौद्ध धर्म का एक अत्यंत पवित्र तीर्थस्थल है, जहाँ भगवान बुद्ध ने ज्ञान प्राप्ति के बाद अपना प्रथम उपदेश (धर्मचक्र प्रवर्तन) दिया था।
