The Union Cabinet approved an additional two-year engagement period for Agniveers in New Delhi on 4 November 2026, creating a pathway for all eligible personnel to transition into regular service.
- The existing provision to offer immediate regular employment to 25 per cent of Agniveers based on merit remains unchanged.
- The remaining 75 per cent of personnel are offered a further two years of service, termed as a ‘Second Tour of Duty’, subject to their willingness.
- The extended second engagement period features higher remuneration, an enhanced Seva Nidhi package, and associated seniority benefits.
