United States President Donald Trump announced on 23 June 2025 that Iran and Israel have agreed to a complete and total ceasefire, set to begin within hours. This came shortly after an Iranian missile strike on a US airbase in Qatar.
According to Trump’s statement on Truth Social:
- The ceasefire will be implemented in stages.
- Iran will initiate the ceasefire.
- Israel will follow 12 hours later.
- A formal end to the 12-day war will be marked after 24 hours.
However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi denied any such agreement, stating:
- No final decision on halting military operations has been made.
- Iran will stop its response only if Israel halts aggression.
