Bangladesh Assumes BIMSTEC Chairmanship for 2025–2027

On April 4, 2025, Bangladesh assumed the Chairmanship of BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) for the next two years, during the BIMSTEC Summit held in Bangkok. The Chairmanship was handed over by the Prime Minister of Thailand to Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s Interim Government, Muhammad Yunus.

In his acceptance, Yunus emphasized the need for an inclusive and action-oriented BIMSTEC, reaffirming Bangladesh’s commitment to regional cooperation and development.

BIMSTEC consists of seven member countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
