The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has directed all telecom service providers to introduce the Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) service across India from 1 November 2026.
- Purpose: To display the caller’s name along with their mobile number on the recipient’s phone.
- Name source: The subscriber database of the originating telecom service provider.
- International calls: Unsaved international numbers will display “International Call”.
- Availability: The service will be provided to all users automatically, without requiring a separate request.
- Technology: Trials have been conducted on 4G and higher-generation wireless terrestrial networks.
- Future expansion: CNAP for 2G and 3G networks and public switched telephone networks (landline networks) will be considered separately.
