17th Kathakali Festival Inaugurated at Kalakshetra Foundation in Chennai

The 17th Kathakali Festival, organised by the Kalakshetra Foundation under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India was inaugurated today at the Bharata Kalakshetra Auditorium, Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai.

  • The three-day festival, themed “Kadha Rasa Sangama – Confluence of Essence of Stories”, brings together three prominent Kathakali institutions—Sadanam Academy, Kerala Kalamandalam and Margi Theatre—to present three distinctive productions from 18 to 20 September 2026.
  • Mishra, IRTS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Culture, was the Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony held at 5:45 PM today.
  • Established in 1936 by Rukmini Devi Arundale, the Kalakshetra Foundation has played a significant role in the preservation, practice and dissemination of India’s classical arts and traditional cultural heritage.

Warren Buffett steps down as Berkshire chairman, son Howard succeeds

  • Warren Buffett is credited with transforming Berkshire from a failing textile company into a $1.1 trillion conglomerate while building an investment philosophy that influenced generations of investors and executives, making him one of the most consequential figures in modern corporate America.
  • The conglomerate’s price-to-book value has fallen since Buffett announced he would step down as CEO, slipping from around 1.62 to 1.53, according to data compiled by LSEG.
  • “Berkshire has had years to prepare for this transition, so this feels more like the completion of a carefully planned succession than a sudden changing of the guard.” He has, however, been generous with me,” Buffett, 96, who has been with Berkshire since 1965, wrote in a letter to shareholders on Friday.

India has been ranked first in business climate among forty plus global markets in the latest Business Climate Survey 2026 by the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in India.

  • He said India’s business climate is setting the gold standard for stability, growth and ease of doing business amid global turbulence.
  • The Global Business Climate Survey 2026 edition presents insights from 41 markets, offering a broad view of Swedish companies’ perspectives on doing business abroad.
  • The survey aims to provide a framework for comparing economic performance, outlook, and operating conditions over time in key Swedish export markets.

India’s real GDP growth forecast to 7% for current financial year: Moody

The global ratings agency Moody’s today raised India’s real GDP growth forecast to 7 per cent, ​from its earlier projection of 6 per cent for the current financial year on 18 September 2026.

  • The agency expects India to continue growing faster than all other G20 economies.
  • Moody’s said India’s real GDP growth rose to 8.2 per cent year-on-year in the first half of 2026, compared with 7.3 per cent in 2025.
  • The growth was supported by stronger private consumption, robust investment, continued government spending on infrastructure, a revival in private investment and sustained strength in the services sector.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the International Conference on “The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics” today in New Delhi on 19 September 2026.

  • The two-day conference is being organised by the National Green Tribunal.
  • It will bring together environmental experts, judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts, and District Court judges.

US and Denmark reach deal on Greenland, Trump says

  • In a Truth Social post, the US president wrote that no US enemies would be able to make sensitive investments on the island without the approval of the United States and that the agreement had no expiry date.
  • The US already has nearly total overflight and basing rights in Greenland due to a 1951 treaty.
  • The Danish prime minister’s office said on Friday that the agreement would strengthen North Atlantic and Arctic security.
