Appointments to the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis

The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, has made the appointment of the Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and Members of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK) on 7 September 2026.

  • Shri Bhagwat Prasad Makwana has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Commission, while Shri Kaishab Bihari as the Vice-Chairperson.
  • Sushma Gaudiyal and Shri Ravi Ramu Kalose have been appointed as Members of the Commission.
  • The appointments will be effective up to 31 st of March 2028, corresponding to the remaining tenure of the present Commission.
  • Shri Bhagwat Prasad Makwana – Chairperson holds a Master’s degree in Economics and has extensive experience in social work, particularly in matters relating to the welfare and empowerment of the Scheduled Caste communities.

DAC clears acquisition proposals worth over Rs 1.10 lakh cr for Forces

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) today cleared capital acquisition proposals worth over 1.10 lakh crore rupees for the defence forces on 8 September 2026.

  • The approval was granted during a meeting of the Council held under the Chairmanship of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Government Strengthens Transparency and Timely Delivery of Scholarships for Scheduled Caste Students

The Central Government has strengthened the delivery, monitoring and accountability framework for the Centrally Sponsored Schemes of Post-Matric Scholarships for Scheduled Castes and Pre-Matric Scholarships for Scheduled Castes and Others on 7 September 2026.

  • The schemes support eligible students of recognised institutions across the country and are implemented through State Governments and Union Territory Administrations.
  • Under this system, the Central share is released directly into the Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts of eligible applicants.
  • Release of the Central share is linked to the transmission by States and Union Territories of data relating to payment of their respective share on the National Scholarship Portal.
  • This digital process enables Centre- and State-level monitoring of scholarship applications and disbursement, promotes timely delivery and reduces the scope for diversion or misuse of funds.

KVIC turns traditional skills into rural enterprises, creates new livelihood opportunities

7 hours ago | Khadi and Village Industries Commission | KVIC | rural enterprises Traditional skills and locally available resources are emerging as the foundation for new rural enterprises, with the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) supporting artisans and entrepreneurs through training, financial assistance, technology, improved tools and market support on 8 September 2026.

  • Under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), KVIC is implementing initiatives such as the Khadi Vikas Yojana (KVY), Gramodyog Vikas Yojana (GVY) and the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) to help traditional occupations evolve into sustainable businesses and sources of livelihood.
  • Ajin, who runs Marthandam Honey Products, has turned his expertise in beekeeping into a honey-based enterprise.
  • His unit produces AGMARK-certified honey as well as honey blended with dry fruits.
  • Ajin has also extended his work beyond his own business by training farmers, particularly those from economically weaker sections and SC/ST communities, in modern beekeeping practices.

Luxembourg backs India’s bid for permanent UNSC seat

Luxembourg Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel has backed India’s bid for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), saying the body must be reformed to reflect the realities of the present global order on 8 September 2026.

  • In an interview with a news agency, Mr Bettel said India’s size and global importance make its inclusion in an expanded Security Council necessary.
  • He said the UNSC could be expanded to include major countries that currently do not have a permanent role, citing India and Brazil.
  • Mr Bettel also criticised the existing veto system, describing it as a “relic of the Second World War” and arguing that no single country should have the power to block decisions supported by the wider international community.
  • He proposed that a two-thirds majority in the Security Council should be able to override a veto, calling for a more representative and democratic decision-making process.

Coal India Output and Dispatch Set to Accelerate as Monsoon Effect Wanes

As the intense rains over coal command regions show clear signs of easing, coal production and supplies at Coal India Limited (CIL) are gathering pace and are set to improve further from here on on 7 September 2026.

  • Despite prolonged spells of rain through July and August, particularly across the East-Central parts, CIL maintained a steady supply run.
  • During April–August of the current fiscal, CIL supplied 322.90 million Tonnes (MT) of coal, 6.70% higher than the 302.60 MT supplied during the corresponding period last year.
  • The easing rainfall is already bringing relief on the ground.
  • Coal beds that had turned sticky and wet after prolonged rain exposure are now drying out, making freshly mined coal free-flowing and considerably easier to transfer, handle and dispatch through Coal Handling Plants (CHPs).
