Glaw Lake in Arunachal Pradesh has been added to the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance.
- With this addition, India’s total Ramsar Sites have reached 101.
- It is Arunachal Pradesh’s first Ramsar Site.
- The lake is located in the Kamlang Tiger Reserve and Wildlife Sanctuary in the Eastern Himalayas.
- It is a freshwater wetland, fed by perennial mountain streams and surrounded by dense natural vegetation.
- The wetland and its catchment support 150+ tree species and 49 orchid species.
- The designation is expected to strengthen wetland conservation, biodiversity protection, water and climate security, and sustainable livelihoods.
- India’s Ramsar Sites increased from 26 in 2014 to 101 in 2026.
- The announcement was made on 3 August 2026 by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav.
