P.V. Sindhu Wins Maiden Japan Open 2026 Title

P.V. Sindhu won the Japan Open 2026 women’s singles title by defeating home favourite and World No. 3 Akane Yamaguchi 21-17, 21-17 in the final of the BWF Super 750 tournament on 19 July 2026 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.

With this victory, Sindhu became the first Indian shuttler to win the Japan Open. It was her first BWF Super 750 title, her first BWF World Tour title since the Syed Modi International 2024, and her biggest achievement since winning the BWF World Championships in 2019.

During her title-winning campaign, Sindhu defeated Olympic champion Chen Yu Fei, World No. 5 Han Yue, and three-time world champion Akane Yamaguchi. The triumph also ended her more than two-year wait for an international title and marked her first completed-match victory over Yamaguchi in four years, signalling a strong return to top form ahead of upcoming international tournaments.
