PMMSY Completes Six Years: Key Highlights

India’s fisheries sector is becoming an important pillar of livelihoods, food security, exports and the Blue Economy, with the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) driving modernisation and sustainable growth.

  • PMMSY launched: 2020; completes 6 years on 10 September 2026.
  • Total outlay: ₹20,750 crore.
  • Budget 2026–27 allocation: Record ₹2,500 crore under PMMSY.
  • Approved projects: ₹21,394.88 crore as of 11 August 2026, including a Central share of ₹9,510.89 crore.
  • Fish production: Increased from 141.64 lakh tonnes (2019–20) to a record 197.75 lakh tonnes (2024–25).
  • Fisheries exports: Rose from ₹46,663 crore (2019–20) to ₹73,890 crore (2025–26).
  • Employment: PMMSY has created direct and indirect employment for 58 lakh people.
