Indian Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa made history by becoming the first Indian to win the Grand Chess Tour. He defeated defending champion Fabiano Caruana 15–13 in the final at St. Louis, USA, on 27 August 2026.
After trailing by six points, Praggnanandhaa staged a remarkable comeback by winning both rapid games and holding his lead in the blitz games. He won the $200,000 first prize and secured a place in the next year’s Grand Chess Tour.
