On 5 November 2026, three important Indian literary and historical works—Mahabharata, Kautilya’s Arthashastra and Kalhana’s Rajatarangini—were inscribed into the UNESCO Memory of the World Asia-Pacific Regional Register during the 11th General Meeting of MOWCAP in Jakarta, Indonesia.
- The nomination dossiers were coordinated and submitted by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA). With these additions, India’s total inscriptions in the regional register increased to six.
- The manuscripts are preserved at three institutions: Mahabharata at Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute (Pune), Arthashastra at Oriental Research Institute (Mysuru), and Rajatarangini at Oriental Research Library (Srinagar).
