Tri-Commissioning of Indigenous Naval Warships (21 June 2026)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned three indigenous naval vessels in Kolkata on 21 June 2026:

  • INS Agray
  • INS Dunagiri
  • INS Sanshodhak

All three warships were designed and built in India, highlighting the success of the Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) initiative in the defence sector.

⚓ India’s Naval and Defence Progress

  • More than 40 Made-in-India warships and submarines have joined the Indian Navy in recent years.
  • Around 45 major naval warships are currently under construction.
  • The commissioning follows the earlier induction of India’s indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant.

🏭 Growth in Defence Manufacturing

  • India’s annual defence production has increased from about ₹40,000 crore (2014) to nearly ₹1.8 lakh crore.
  • Defence exports have risen from around ₹700 crore before 2014 to approximately ₹40,000 crore.
  • Indian defence equipment is now exported to more than 80 countries.
