VB-G RAM G Act Comes into Force from 1 July 2026, Replacing MGNREGA

The Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) [VB-G RAM G] Act, 2025 came into force across rural India on 1 July 2026, replacing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), 2005.

The new law increases the statutory guarantee of wage employment from 100 days to 125 days per financial year, aiming to strengthen rural livelihoods, enhance income security, and support faster rural development. It also ensures timely and transparent wage payments and provides for an unemployment allowance if work is not offered within the prescribed time.

The Union Government has allocated ₹95,692 crore for implementing the scheme in 2026–27. According to Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the new framework is fully prepared for implementation and is designed to contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 by creating durable community assets and expanding employment opportunities in rural areas.
