Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Assam for a second consecutive term on 12 May 2026 at Veterinary Ground, Khanapara, Guwahati. The oath was administered by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and several NDA leaders.
Along with Himanta Biswa Sarma, four leaders — Rameswar Teli, Ajanta Neog, Atul Bora, and Charan Boro — also took oath as ministers.
The swearing-in marked the third consecutive NDA government in Assam after victories in 2016, 2021, and 2026. In the 126-member Assam Assembly, the NDA secured 102 seats, including 82 seats won by the BJP.
Himanta Biswa Sarma also became the first non-Congress leader in Assam’s history to serve two consecutive terms as Chief Minister.
