Parliament passed the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026 on 4 August 2026. संसद ने 4 अगस्त 2026 को जन्म और मृत्यु पंजीकरण (संशोधन) विधेयक, 2026 पारित किया। यह विधेयक जन्म और मृत्यु पंजीकरण अधिनियम, 1969 में संशोधन करता है, जिसका उद्देश्य विलंबित पंजीकरण की प्रक्रिया को अधिक सख्त बनाना तथा जन्म और मृत्यु का समय पर एवं सही पंजीकरण सुनिश्चित करना है। संशोधित प्रावधानों के अनुसार, यदि किसी जन्म या मृत्यु की सूचना घटना के दो वर्ष से अधिक समय बाद दी जाती है, तो उसका पंजीकरण केवल प्रथम श्रेणी के न्यायिक मजिस्ट्रेट (JMFC) के आदेश से ही किया जा सकेगा।
