The Next-Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV) ‘Shreyas’ was launched on October 10, 2026 at GRSE Kolkata marks a significant milestone in India’s naval shipbuilding and self-reliance initiatives.
- Launch by Mrs. Reyman Kochhar in the presence of Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar.
- Program Background: Part of an 11-ship NGOPV project being built across Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) and GRSE, with GRSE constructing four vessels in the series.
- Vessel Dimensions: Measures approximately 113 meters in length, 14.6 meters in beam, and has a displacement of around 3,000 tonnes.
- Performance & Range: Capable of reaching top speeds up to 23 knots with an impressive endurance of 8,500 nautical miles at a 14-knot cruising speed.
- Core Capabilities: Designed for multi-role maritime duties including coastal defense, surveillance, anti-piracy, search and rescue (SAR), and humanitarian relief (HADR).
