Cyclone Montha Hits Andhra Pradesh and Yanam Coasts on 28 Oct 2025

Severe Cyclonic Storm Montha made landfall between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam on the night of 28 October 2025, with wind speeds of 90–100 km/h. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that landfall began near Kakinada at 7 PM.

The storm brought very heavy rainfall across Andhra Pradesh, causing damage to over 43,000 hectares of crops. Nellore district recorded the highest rainfall during the event.

IMD forecast continued light to moderate rainfall across most parts of Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, with heavy to very heavy rainfall at several places and extremely heavy rainfall (>20 cm) at isolated locations.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed 26 teams12 in Andhra Pradesh, 6 in Odisha, 3 in northern Tamil Nadu, and additional teams in Chhattisgarh and Telangana.
