Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur inaugurated the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships 2023 in Greater Noida on 27 July 2023.
- This is the first time that India is hosting the international weightlifting event.
- The championship will witness the participation of over 30 Indian weightlifters, including several Khelo India athletes who recently achieved India’s best-ever performance at the Weightlifting Commonwealth Championships, winning a total of 61 medals.
- More than 15 nations from the Asian region will be represented, with around 200 athletes and over 50 technical staff and coaches taking part in the prestigious event.
- The Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships will commence on the next day after the inauguration and will conclude on the 5th of August.
