India’s Fastest Man: Animesh Kujur Clocks Historic 10.18 Seconds

Animesh Kujur, a 22-year-old sprinter from Chhattisgarh, set a new national record in the men’s 100m with a timing of 10.18 seconds at the Dromia International Meet in Greece on July 2025.

He became the first Indian to run 100m under 10.20s, breaking Gurindervir Singh’s record of 10.20s. The feat was achieved at a World Athletics Continental Tour (Silver) event.

Kujur also holds the national 200m record (20.32s) and was part of India’s record-setting 4x100m relay team (38.69s).

India Defeat England by 336 Runs in 2nd Anderson-Tendulkar Test

India secured a record 336-run victory over England in the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Edgbaston, Birmingham, leveling the series 1-1.

  • It was India’s first-ever Test win at Edgbaston, ending a 58-year winless streak at the venue.
  • Despite a 100-minute rain delay on Day 5, Indian bowlers bowled out England by taking 7 remaining wickets.

🌟 Star Performers:

  • Akash Deep took a 10-wicket haul (4 in the first innings, 6 in the second), becoming the second Indian to do so in England after Chetan Sharma (1986).
  • Mohammed Siraj also starred with 7 wickets in the match.
  • Shubman Gill scored a record 430 runs across both innings (269 + 161) and was named Player of the Match.
    • His 430 is the second-highest aggregate in Test history after Graham Gooch’s 456.

India declared at 427/6 in their second innings, setting England a target of 608. England were all out for 271.

India Qualifies for AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 After 22 Years

On 6 July 2025, the Indian women’s football team defeated hosts Thailand 2-1 in their final Group B match of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers at the Chiang Mai Stadium.

Sangita Basfore scored both goals for India, helping the team qualify for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup main event for the first time since 2003. Thailand’s lone goal came from Chatchawan Rodhong.

With both teams level on points and goal difference before the match, it served as a virtual playoff. India now heads to the 2026 Asian Cup in Australia.

India’s Best-Ever Medal Haul at World Boxing Cup 2025 in Astana

On 6 July 2025, India delivered its best-ever performance at the World Boxing Cup in Astana, clinching 11 medals3 Gold, 5 Silver, and 3 Bronze.

Gukesh Wins Rapid Title at Grand Chess Tour 2025 in Zagreb

Reigning World Champion Gukesh Dommaraju won the Rapid section of the Grand Chess Tour 2025 in Zagreb, Croatia, on 5 July 2025. The 19-year-old Indian secured the title by defeating Wesley So in the final round, scoring 14 out of 18 points.

Jan-Krzysztof Duda finished second with 11 points, and Magnus Carlsen placed third with 10 points. Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu shared fourth with Fabiano Caruana, each scoring 9 points.

The Blitz rounds begin today, featuring top players like Gukesh, Carlsen, Caruana, and Praggnanandhaa. The combined scores from Rapid and Blitz will decide the overall winner.

This is the third leg of the Grand Chess Tour 2025, following events in Poland and Romania, where Praggnanandhaa won in Bucharest and finished third in Warsaw. Upcoming events include two in the US (August) and the final in Brazil (Sept–Oct).

India’s First Khelo India Water Sports Festival to Debut at Dal Lake in Srinagar in August 2025

The first-ever Khelo India Water Sports Festival will be held at Dal Lake in Srinagar from 21st to 23rd August 2025, as announced by Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya.

The three-day event will feature five water sports:

  • Kayaking and Canoeing
  • Rowing
  • Water Skiing
  • Shikara Race
  • Dragon Boat

Over 400 athletes from 36 States and Union Territories are expected to participate in this open-age national competition.

Divyanshi Bhowmick Wins Gold for India at Asian Youth Table Tennis Championships 2025

India’s Divyanshi Bhowmick won gold in U-15 Girls’ Singles at the 29th Asian Youth Table Tennis Championships in Tashkent, defeating China’s Zhu Qihi 4-2 on 1 July 2025. With this win, she also qualified for the World Youth Championships.

India finished with one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.

Ayush Shetty Wins US Open 2025 in Badminton, Becomes First Indian BWF World Tour Title in 2025

In Badminton, 20-year-old Ayush Shetty made history by becoming the first Indian to win a BWF World Tour title in 2025, clinching the US Open 2025 on 29 June 2025.

Khelo India University Games 2025 to Be Held in Jaipur in November

Neeraj Chopra Wins Javelin Gold at Ostrava Golden Spike 2025 with 85.29m Throw

In Athletics, two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra clinched the Javelin Throw title at the Ostrava Golden Spike 2025 meet in the Czech Republic on 25 June 2025. The 27-year-old Indian athlete secured the gold medal with a best throw of 85.29 metres.

  • Douw Smit (South Africa) came second with 84.12 metres
  • Anderson Peters (Grenada) finished third with 83.63 metres

This marks Neeraj’s second consecutive win, following his remarkable 90.23-metre throw at the Paris Diamond League last week—his first-ever throw beyond 90 metres.

ICC Announces Schedule for 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the schedule for the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, which will be held from 30th September to 2nd November in India and Sri Lanka.

Although India is the official host, Sri Lanka will host all of Pakistan’s matches due to political tensions between the two countries. This marks the fourth time India hosts the Women’s ODI World Cup and the first since 2013.

  • India’s opening match is on 30th September against Sri Lanka at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
  • The much-awaited India vs Pakistan match is scheduled for 5th October at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
  • Defending champions Australia will face New Zealand in their opening game on 1st October in Indore.
  • The round-robin stage ends on 26th October, with semifinals on 29th and 30th October, and the final on 2nd November.

The eight participating teams are:
India, Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.

South Africa Wins First ICC World Test Championship Title

Renowned for his calm under pressure and tactical brilliance, Dhoni is celebrated as one of the game’s greatest finishers, leaders, and wicketkeepers. His international career boasts 17,266 runs, 829 dismissals, and 538 matches for India — a reflection of his consistency, fitness, and longevity.

Dhoni led India to three ICC titles:

Asian Athletics Championships 2025 – Golds for Sable, Yarraji, and 4x400m Relay Team

India Wins Gold in 4x400m Mixed Relay at Asian Athletics Championships 2025

India successfully defended its 4x400m mixed relay title at the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea, on 28 May 2025. The team — Rupal Choudhary, Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan, Vishal TK, and Subha Venkatesan — won gold with a time of 3:18.12, ahead of China and Sri Lanka. This is India’s third mixed relay medal, following gold in 2023 and silver in 2019.

In other events, Rupal Choudhary also won silver in the women’s 400m (52.68s), while Vithya Ramraj placed fifth. Pooja earned silver in the women’s 1500m (4:10.83), with Lili Das narrowly missing the podium in fourth.

Asian Athletics Championships 2025: Gulveer Singh Wins Gold in 10,000m

On 27 May 2025, India’s Gulveer Singh won the gold medal in the Men’s 10,000-metre race at the Asian Athletics Championships held in Gumi, South Korea, with a time of 28 minutes 38.63 seconds.

Earlier in the day, Servin Sebasthiyan secured India’s first medal of the tournament by winning bronze in the men’s 20 km race walk, clocking 1 hour, 21 minutes, and 13.6 seconds. Wang Zhaozhao of China won gold, and Kento Yoshikawa of Japan took silver in the same event. Another Indian athlete, Amit, finished fifth in the race walk.

Mahendra Gurjar Sets World Record in F42 Javelin at Para Athletics Grand Prix

On 26 May 2025, Indian para athlete Mahendra Gurjar made history by setting a new world record in the men’s F42 javelin throw with a distance of 61.17 meters at the Nottwil World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Switzerland. The 27-year-old broke the previous record of 59.19 meters, held by Brazil’s Roberto Floriani Edenilson since 2022.

Gurjar’s record came on his third attempt, following throws of 56.11m and 55.51m. The F42 category is for athletes with moderate movement impairment in one leg.

Despite competing in a combined event with athletes from categories F40, F57, F63, and F64, Gurjar won gold in F42 and set the world record in that classification.

Earlier, on 23 May, Gurjar also won gold in the long jump T42 category with a 5.59m leap — his debut in the event — and is now Asia’s top-ranked athlete in that category.

In the same Grand Prix, Sumit Antil, a double Paralympics gold medallist, won gold in the F64 javelin event with a throw of 72.35m. The F64 category includes athletes with moderate leg impairments or limb loss.

However, it’s notable that the F42 category is not included in the 2023 Asian Para Games or the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

Khelo India Beach Games 2025 Inaugurated in Diu

The first edition of the Khelo India Beach Games (KIBG) was inaugurated on May 19, 2025, at Ghoghla Beach in Diu by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. The colorful opening ceremony showcased India’s cultural diversity through traditional dance performances.

Over 1,350 athletes from more than 30 states and Union Territories are participating in the Games, competing in six medal events:

  • Football
  • Volleyball
  • Sepaktakraw
  • Kabaddi
  • Pencak Silat
  • Open Water Swimming

Additionally, Mallakhamb and Tug-of-War will be featured as non-medal demonstration sports.

India Wins SAFF U-19 Championship 2025

India clinched the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Under-19 Football Championship 2025 by defeating Bangladesh 4-3 in a thrilling penalty shootout in the final held at the Yupia Outdoor Stadium, Arunachal Pradesh, on 18 May 2025. On May 16, 2025, Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa emerged victorious at the Superbet Chess Classic 2025 held in Bucharest, Romania, after a tense three-way tiebreak playoff.

  • Maharashtra emerged as the overall champion with 158 medals (58 gold, 47 silver).
  • Haryana secured second place with 117 medals (39 gold, 27 silver).
  • Rajasthan stood third with 60 medals (24 gold, 12 silver).

  • Multiple new records were set in weightlifting.
  • In athletics:

IPL 2025 to Resume on May 17 After Suspension Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the IPL 2025 will resume on 17 May, after a week-long suspension caused by rising India-Pakistan tensions following India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’.

The first match after resumption will feature Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Kolkata Knight Riders at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

No matches will be played in Mohali or Dharamsala.

The Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians match, originally scheduled in Ahmedabad, will now take place at SMS Stadium, Jaipur on 26 May.

The IPL final is set for 3 June, with the playoffs beginning on 29 May:

  • Qualifier 1: 29 May
  • Eliminator: 30 May
  • Qualifier 2: 1 June
  • Final: 3 June

Playoff venues will be announced later.

Virat Kohli Retires from Test Cricket, Concludes Glorious 14-Year Career

Virat Kohli has announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 12, 2025, concluding a 14-year illustrious career in the format. He shared the news on social media, marking the end of an era in Indian Test cricket.

Kohli scored 9230 runs in 123 matches at an average of 46.85, making him India’s fourth-highest run-scorer in Tests, behind Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sunil Gavaskar.

Debuting in 2011 against the West Indies, Kohli became India’s Test captain in 2014, leading in 68 matches—the most by any Indian captain—with 40 wins, 17 losses, and 11 draws, resulting in a win percentage of 58.82%.

Under his leadership, India achieved several milestones, including a historic series win in Australia in 2019. His last Test match was in the 2025 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which Australia won 3-1.

Kohli had previously retired from T20 Internationals after India’s 2024 T20 World Cup victory.

India Wins Tri-Nation Women’s ODI Series 2025 with Victory Over Sri Lanka

The Indian women’s cricket team clinched the Tri-Nation ODI Series title by defeating Sri Lanka by 97 runs in the final at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on 11 May 2025. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana starred with a brilliant 116, her 11th ODI century, leading India to a strong total of 342/7. Key contributions also came from Harleen Deol (47), Jemimah Rodrigues (44), and Harmanpreet Kaur (41), while Deepti Sharma and Amanjot Kaur added 90 runs in the final 10 overs.

In response, Sri Lanka managed only 245 in 48.2 overs, with Sneh Rana taking 4 wickets for 38 runs and Amanjot Kaur bagging 3 for 54. Despite efforts from Chamari Athapaththu (51) and Nilakshika Silva (48), India’s dominance secured a convincing win. The victory boosts team morale ahead of the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup.
