The sixth edition of Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2024 began on January 19, 2024, and will conclude on January 31, 2024. This year’s KIYG is being held in the state of Tamil Nadu, across four cities: Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, and Trichy.
Over 5,000 athletes from all over India are participating in the KIYG 2024. They are competing in 21 Olympic sports, 7 non-Olympic sports, and 5 indigenous games. Silambam, a traditional Indian martial art, is being included as a demonstration sport for the first time this year.
The opening ceremony of the KIYG 2024 was held on January 19, 2024, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who inaugurated the Games. The mascot for the KIYG 2024 is Veera Mangai, a queen from Tamil Nadu who is known for her courage and bravery.
