On November 16, 2024, DRDO successfully conducted a flight trial of India’s first long-range hypersonic missile from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha. The missile, capable of carrying various payloads over distances greater than 1,500 km, represents a significant technological advancement for the Armed Forces.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hailed the achievement as historic, positioning India among a select group of nations with advanced hypersonic military technology. The missile’s performance was tracked using multiple range systems, and data from down-range ship stations confirmed accurate terminal maneuvers and impact. The Defence Minister congratulated DRDO, the Armed Forces, and the industry on this milestone.
