- Established in 1888, the Durand Cup is the oldest football tournament in Asia and the fifth oldest in the world.
- Originally started as an Army Cup for British Indian Army troops, it later opened up to civilian teams, becoming a prestigious event in Indian football.
- Named after Sir Mortimer Durand, the then Foreign Secretary of British India.
