World Food Safety Day (WFSD), observed every year on 7th June, will celebrate its fifth edition in 2023. The day is observed every year to draw attention and inspire action to help prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks to human health, economic prosperity, agriculture and sustainable development.
Theme :
This year’s the theme of World Food Safety Day is “Food Standards Save Lives“.
Significance :
The day also provides an opportunity to strengthen efforts to ensure that the food we eat is safe, mainstream food safety on the public agenda, and reduce the burden of foodborne diseases globally.
History :
World Food Safety Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly through a resolution in 2018. The resolution was proposed by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and co-sponsored by a total of 44 countries. The day was officially designated to be celebrated annually on 7th June.
