Parag Jain Appointed New RAW Chief

On July 1, 2025, Parag Jain, a 1989-batch IPS officer from Punjab cadre, took charge as the new Secretary of RAW (Research and Analysis Wing), India’s external intelligence agency. His appointment reflects a strategic leadership shift in India’s intelligence setup amid growing regional and global security concerns.

Jain is known for blending HUMINT (human intelligence) and TECHINT (technical intelligence) in critical operations such as the Balakot airstrike, abrogation of Article 370, and the high-precision Operation Sindoor targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK.

With past roles in J&K and Punjab, and international experience in Canada and Sri Lanka (countering the Khalistan network), Jain brings operational depth to his new role. His two-year fixed term begins as India faces threats like cross-border terrorism, hybrid warfare, and China-Pakistan coordination.
