World’s highest tunnel : Shinkun La Tunnel, Kargil, Ladakh

On July 26, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the construction of the world’s highest tunnel in Kargil, Ladakh, by initiating the first blast.

The Shinkun La Tunnel will be 4.1 kilometers long, with twin tubes, and is located at an altitude of about 15,800 feet on the Nimu-Padum-Darcha Road.

This tunnel will provide year-round connectivity to Leh, improve the movement of armed forces and their equipment, and promote economic and social development in Ladakh.
