The Make in India initiative celebrated its 10th anniversary on 25th September 2024. Launched by the Modi government in 2014, the program aimed to boost manufacturing, innovation, and infrastructure development, positioning India as a global manufacturing hub.
Over the past decade, India has made significant progress, becoming the second-largest mobile phone manufacturer and reducing mobile imports by 85%. The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme attracted investments of over ₹1.28 lakh crore, and the startup ecosystem flourished, with one startup launched every hour, creating 1.5 million jobs. India also became a global leader in vaccine production, supplying 50% of the world’s COVID vaccines.
Other milestones include the introduction of the Vande Bharat train and India’s leadership in digital payments, with UPI surpassing global platforms. The initiative has significantly strengthened India’s economy and global standing.
