World Diabetes Day (14 November)

World Diabetes Day is observed every year on 14 November, marking the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, the co-discoverer of insulin. The 2025 theme is “Access to Diabetes Care”, highlighting the need for equitable treatment, early diagnosis, and global awareness.

Diabetes is a chronic disease caused by insufficient insulin or the body’s inability to use it effectively. The main types are Type 1, Type 2, and Gestational diabetes. Globally, over 530 million people are living with the condition, with India having the second-highest number of diabetics. About 50% of adults with diabetes remain undiagnosed.

Diabetes significantly increases the risk of blindness, kidney failure, heart disease, and stroke. Prevention through healthy lifestyle, timely screening, and access to essential medicines like insulin is critical. Awareness campaigns, healthier habits, and advocacy for affordable care are key to reducing its impact worldwide.

Botswana Hands Over Cheetahs to India under Project Cheetah

On 13 November 2025, Botswana handed over eight cheetahs to India under Project Cheetah, marking a new phase of cooperation in wildlife conservation between the two nations. The announcement came after bilateral talks between President Droupadi Murmu and Botswana’s President Duma Boko.

Both Presidents witnessed the symbolic handover of cheetahs at a quarantine facility near Gaborone, where the animals will remain before being translocated to India. President Boko emphasized the shared commitment to biodiversity and environmental goals, while President Murmu thanked Botswana for its support and assured proper care for the big cats.

Project Cheetah, launched to reintroduce cheetahs to India decades after their extinction, earlier brought eight cheetahs from Namibia (2022) and twelve from South Africa (2023) to Kuno National Park, where many have successfully adapted and reproduced.

During the visit, both nations also signed an MoU on healthcare and pharmaceuticals, with India announcing the supply of ARV medicines to aid Botswana’s HIV treatment program. President Murmu addressed Botswana’s Parliament, visited the Diamond Trading Company, attended a state banquet, and was scheduled to meet the Indian community before concluding her visit.

Cricket at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics

Cricket will make a historic comeback at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, returning to the Games after 128 years. The T20 format has been approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), with matches to be held at Fairplex, Pomona, California.

The event will feature six men’s and six women’s national teams, totaling around 180 athletes from 12 nations. The women’s T20 final is scheduled for July 20, 2028, and the men’s final for July 29, 2028, during the LA28 Olympics, which run from July 14 to July 30, 2028, across 49 venues.

This marks only the second time cricket will appear in the Olympics since 1900, highlighting its growing global reach and popularity, especially in cricket-loving nations like India, Australia, England, and the Caribbean.

Exercise Malabar 2025: Quad naval exercise from November 10–18, 2025

Exercise Malabar 2025 is a major Quad naval exercise held from November 10–18, 2025, near Guam in the West Pacific, involving India, the United States, Japan, and Australia. The drill focuses on strengthening interoperability, regional security, and joint operational readiness among the four nations.

The exercise featured two phases — Harbour Phase (Nov 10–12) and Sea Phase (Nov 13–17) — and included advanced naval platforms such as India’s INS Sahyadri and Australia’s HMAS Ballarat with a P-8A Poseidon aircraft.

Started in 1992 as a bilateral India–US exercise, Malabar expanded to include Japan in 2015 and Australia in 2020, evolving into a key Quad maritime cooperation platform. It reflects the nations’ shared commitment to freedom of navigation, regional stability, and a rules-based Indo-Pacific order.

6th National Water Awards 2024

President Droupadi Murmu will present the 6th National Water Awards 2024 on November 18, 2025, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, to honour outstanding contributions in water conservation and management.

The awards, organized by the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation (DoWR, RD & GR), recognized 46 winners across 10 categories, selected from 751 applications received via the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal.

Maharashtra was declared the Best State, followed by Gujarat and Haryana. Among districts, Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh), Khargone (Madhya Pradesh), Mirzapur (Uttar Pradesh), Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu), and Sepahijala (Tripura) were top performers.

Car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station

A powerful car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station on November 10, 2025, claimed eight lives and injured over two dozen people, prompting a national investigation under anti-terror laws.

The blast occurred around 7:15 PM near Gate No. 1, involving a Hyundai i20 with a Haryana number plate. Authorities suspect an IED or CNG cylinder explosion.

The case has been registered under the UAPA and Explosives Act, with three suspects from Pulwama detained and the car owner questioned. CCTV footage captured a lone suspect near the car shortly before the explosion.

Home Minister Amit Shah ordered a detailed probe, while PM Narendra Modi reviewed the security situation. A high alert was issued across Delhi and major cities, with intensified checks at metro stations, hotels, and public areas.

India’s Unemployment Rate Falls to 5.2% in Q2 2025

India’s unemployment rate dropped to 5.2% in the July–September 2025 quarter, improving from 5.4% in the previous quarter, according to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).

Winter Session of the Parliament from 1 to 19 December 2025

The Winter Session of the Indian Parliament will be held from December 1 to December 19, 2025, focusing on crucial constitutional, electoral, and economic reforms amid a tense political climate. President Droupadi Murmu’s Visit to Angola: Strengthening India-Africa Ties

President Droupadi Murmu’s four-day state visit to Angola (November 8–11, 2025) marked a historic moment as she became the first Indian Head of State to visit the country. IFFCO and Amul Ranked Among World’s Top Cooperatives by ICA

India’s leading cooperatives, Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) and Amul, have been ranked as the top cooperatives globally based on GDP per capita performance in the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) World Cooperative Monitor 2025, announced at the ICA CM50 Conference in Doha, Qatar.

India Achieves Record Performance in QS World University Rankings 2026

India has achieved its best-ever performance in the QS World University Rankings 2026, with 54 universities making it to the global list—up from 46 in 2025 and just 11 in 2014. This milestone places India fourth globally, after the US, UK, and China, highlighting its growing strength in global higher education.

IIT Delhi emerged as India’s highest-ranked institution, rising to 123rd, followed by IIT Bombay (129th) and IIT Madras (180th), which entered the top 200 for the first time. Education experts, including Dr. V. Kamakoti (IIT Madras) and Dr. Ashwin Fernandes (QS Asia), hailed the achievement as a reflection of India’s academic transformation and its vision to become a developed nation by 2047.

Sanjay Garg Appointed as New Director General of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)

Sanjay Garg, a 1994-batch IAS officer from the Kerala cadre, has taken charge as the Director General (DG) of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) effective 1 November 2025. Before this appointment, he served as Secretary of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Additional Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education.

As DG of BIS, he will also hold the position of President of India’s National Committee in the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Scheme Fund Launched

The Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Scheme Fund, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 3 November 2025 during ESTIC 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, is a ₹1 lakh crore initiative (2025–2031) to promote private sector-led R&D and deep-tech innovation in India. Implemented by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under the strategic direction of the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), the scheme aims to make India a global innovation hub.

Its objectives include fostering technological self-reliance, encouraging industry participation, and supporting strategic sectors such as AI, quantum computing, biotechnology, energy security, climate action, and the digital economy.

Key features include flexible financing options (low-interest loans, equity funding, and a Deep-Tech Fund of Funds), simplified funding access, and enhanced industry-academia collaboration. The scheme is expected to boost India’s global competitiveness, strengthen the innovation ecosystem, create high-tech jobs, and generate intellectual property assets.

ISRO Launches India’s Heaviest Communication Satellite GSAT-7R (CMS-03)

On 2 November 2025, ISRO successfully launched the GSAT-7R (CMS-03), India’s heaviest communication satellite (4,410 kg), using the LVM3-M5 (Baahubali) rocket from Sriharikota.

The indigenously built satellite will boost the Indian Navy’s communication and maritime surveillance over the Indian Ocean Region. It is designed to operate for 15 years.

ISRO Chief V. Narayanan called it a “shiny example of Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” praising teams for executing ISRO’s heaviest-ever payload launch. The LVM3 achieved its 8th consecutive success and will be used for the upcoming Gaganyatri-2 mission.

India Women Create History, Win 2025 ODI World Cup

India created history by winning their first-ever Women’s ODI World Cup, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, on 2 November 2025.

Batting first after a rain delay, India scored 298/7, powered by Shafali Verma’s 87 and Deepti Sharma’s 58. Despite being on course for a 350+ total, disciplined bowling from Ayabonga Khaka (3/58) restricted them under 300.

In reply, South Africa’s captain Laura Wolvaardt led with a valiant 101, but her dismissal in the 42nd over ended their hopes as they were bowled out for 246 in 45.3 overs.

Deepti Sharma starred with the ball too, taking 5 wickets for 39 runs, completing a superb all-round performance.

International Arya Mahasammelan 2025: 150 Years of Arya Samaj

The International Arya Mahasammelan 2025, held at Swarn Jayanti Park, Rohini (New Delhi) from October 30 to November 2, celebrated 150 years of Arya Samaj, founded by Swami Dayanand Saraswati. Delegates from several countries, including the US, Netherlands, Nepal, Uganda, and Suriname, attended the event, highlighting Arya Samaj’s global influence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the gathering, describing Arya Samaj as a symbol of India’s Vedic identity and cultural resurgence. He praised Swami Dayanand for fighting social evils and colonial oppression, and noted the movement’s impact on freedom fighters like Lala Lajpat Rai and Ram Prasad Bismil.

The Mahasammelan featured Vedic chanting, cultural programs, and discussions on education, gender equality, and sustainable development. Organized by the Delhi Arya Pratinidhi Sabha, it promoted youth participation, interfaith harmony, and reaffirmed Arya Samaj’s principles of truth, universal brotherhood, and social upliftment.

Overall, the event was a global tribute to Arya Samaj’s 150-year legacy and its enduring mission to build a just, enlightened, and spiritually grounded society.

Aadhaar Vision 2032 Framework Launched by UIDAI

On 31 October 2025, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) launched the ‘Aadhaar Vision 2032’ framework — a strategic roadmap to make Aadhaar future-ready through advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, Quantum Computing, and Advanced Encryption.

The initiative aims to reinforce Aadhaar’s security, scalability, inclusiveness, and compliance with data protection and privacy standards, ensuring its continued role as a cornerstone of India’s digital governance and economy.

A High-Level Expert Committee, chaired by Neelkanth Mishra (Chairperson, UIDAI), has been formed to draft the vision document. Members include experts from academia, industry, and administration such as Vivek Raghavan (Sarvam AI), Dheeraj Pandey (Nutanix), Sasikumar Ganesan (MOSIP), Rahul Matthan (Trilegal), Navin Budhiraja (Vianai Systems), Anil Jain (Michigan State University), and others.

The Aadhaar Vision 2032 document will outline a next-generation architecture aligned with the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act and global cybersecurity standards, focusing on AI-driven authentication, Blockchain-based trust, Quantum security preparedness, and advanced data encryption.

Justice Surya Kant Appointed as 53rd Chief Justice of India

Justice Surya Kant has been appointed as the 53rd Chief Justice of India (CJI), succeeding Chief Justice B.R. Gavai, who retires on November 23, 2025. President Droupadi Murmu has approved the appointment under Article 124(2) of the Constitution. Justice Kant will assume office on November 24, 2025, and will serve a 14-month tenure until February 9, 2027.

Born on February 10, 1962, in Petwar village, Hisar district (Haryana), Justice Surya Kant earned his LL.B. from Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, in 1984 and began practicing law in Hisar before moving to the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 1985.

He became the youngest Advocate General of Haryana in 2000 and was later elevated as a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court (2004), Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court (2018), and Judge of the Supreme Court (2019).

India Enters Women’s World Cup Final 2025 After Beating Australia

On 30 October 2025, India scripted history by chasing down 339 runs — the highest successful run chase in Women’s ODI history — to defeat Australia by five wickets in the second semi-final at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai.

Jemimah Rodrigues was the star of the match, scoring a match-winning unbeaten 127 and sharing a 167-run partnership with captain Harmanpreet Kaur (89) to guide India to victory with nine balls to spare.

The event was graced by Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel, Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, and Shri Durgadas Uikey, Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs.

During the event, the Training Module on Model Youth Gram Sabha and the MYGS Portal were launched to support effective implementation, teacher capacity building, and student engagement in grassroots democracy. The initiative will be implemented in over 1,000 schools across India, including Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs), and State Government Schools.

The Model Youth Gram Sabha is a pioneering initiative aimed at promoting Janbhagidari (public participation) and participatory local governance by involving students in simulated Gram Sabha sessions. Aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, it seeks to instill democratic values, civic responsibility, and leadership skills among the youth, fostering the vision of a Viksit Bharat.

President Droupadi Murmu Becomes First Indian President to Fly in Rafale Fighter Jet

On 29 October 2025, President Droupadi Murmu undertook a 25-minute sortie in a Rafale fighter jet from Ambala Air Force Station, Haryana, piloted by Group Captain Amit Gehani. The aircraft flew at an altitude of about 15,000 feet, covering nearly 200 km at a speed of 700 km/h before safely returning to base.

President Murmu became the first Indian President to fly in two IAF fighter aircraft, having earlier flown in a Sukhoi-30 MKI in 2023. She described the experience as unforgettable.
