Desi Oon, an animated film by Indian filmmaker Suresh Eriyat, has brought global recognition to Indian animation by winning the Jury Award for Best Commissioned Film at the Annecy International Animation Festival 2025 in France on June 18, 2025.
The film had earlier won Best Film at WAVES 2025 – India’s premier animation and design platform under the Create in India Challenge, organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Desi Oon has also been shortlisted at Cannes Lions 2025 in the Film Craft Lions category, marking a milestone for India’s animation industry. The filmmaker noted that recognition at WAVES-2025 played a key role in driving India’s creative momentum.
The Create in India Challenge is now seen as a transformative platform that is taking Indian creativity and animation to global platforms.
