India to Chair BRICS 2026 as Group Welcomes Indonesia and 10 New Partners

At the 17th BRICS Summit (July 6–7, 2025) in Rio de Janeiro, Indonesia was officially inducted as a full member, making BRICS a group of 11 nations.

  • The summit focused on “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for Inclusive and Sustainable Governance.”
  • 10 new partner countries also joined BRICS cooperation: Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Nigeria, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Uganda, and Uzbekistan.
  • The Rio Declaration reaffirmed BRICS support for UN reform, climate action, AI governance, and health equity.
  • BRICS backed India and Brazil for permanent seats in the UN Security Council.
