PM Narendra Modi’s Bhutan Visit (November 11–12, 2025)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day (November 11–12, 2025) state visit to Bhutan focused on strengthening the deep cultural, spiritual, and strategic partnership between the two nations.

He attended celebrations marking the 70th birthday of Bhutan’s Fourth King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, and participated in the Global Peace Prayer Festival in Thimphu, where the Sacred Piprahwa Relics of Lord Buddha from India were showcased — highlighting shared civilisational ties.

A major achievement was the joint inauguration of the 1020 MW Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project, boosting Bhutan’s energy capacity and reflecting India’s continued support for its neighbour’s development.

PM Modi also met King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay to discuss cooperation in education, digital connectivity, and infrastructure.

The visit reaffirmed India’s Neighbourhood First Policy, strengthened energy and cultural diplomacy, and showcased India’s commitment to a strong and mutually respectful partnership with Bhutan.

  • Exercise Lamitiye 2026: 11th India–Seychelles Joint Military Exercise

    Lamitiye 2026 is the 11th edition of the joint military exercise between India and Seychelles, conducted from 9–20 March 2026 at the Seychelles Defence Academy. The exercise involves tri-service participation from the Indian Armed Forces along with the Seychelles Defence Forces.

    The exercise aims to enhance interoperability, peacekeeping capabilities, and defence cooperation between the two countries. The term “Lamitiye”, meaning “Friendship” in Creole, reflects the strong bilateral ties between India and Seychelles.

    Lamitiye has been conducted biennially since 2001, and the 2026 edition marks the first full tri-service participation from India, including the Assam Regiment, INS Trikand, and a Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules of the Indian Air Force.

    The exercise focuses on sub-conventional operations, peacekeeping missions, humanitarian assistance, and joint training, strengthening security cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

  • S&P Upgrades India’s Sovereign Credit Rating to ‘BBB’

    On 14 August 2025, S&P Global Ratings upgraded India’s long-term sovereign credit rating to ‘BBB’ from ‘BBB-’, the first upgrade in 18 years, citing strong economic growth, better monetary policy credibility, and sustained fiscal consolidation.

    • India’s last upgrade by S&P was in 2007.
    • India’s real GDP growth averaged 8.8% (FY 2022–24), the highest in Asia-Pacific, and is projected at 6.8% annually over the next three years.
    • India’s debt-to-GDP ratio expected to decline from 83% (FY 2025) to 78% (FY 2029).
    • Other agencies’ ratings: Fitch: BBB- (since 2006), Moody’s: Baa3 (since 2020).
    • The upgrade came despite U.S. tariffs on Indian exports (50%), citing oil imports from Russia.

  • 32 Airports Temporarily Closed Across North and West India Till May 15

    The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has announced the temporary closure of 32 airports in northern and western India for all civil flight operations until May 15.

    Key affected airports include Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jammu, Srinagar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Jaisalmer, and Pathankot. Additionally, 25 Air Traffic Service (ATS) route segments in the Delhi and Mumbai Flight Information Regions will be closed.

    Airlines have been advised to use alternate routes to minimize disruptions. The closure is for operational reasons and is being coordinated with relevant authorities to ensure safety.

  • Namrata Batra Becomes First Indian to Enter Wushu Final at World Games 2025

    On 11 August 2025, Namrata Batra became the first Indian to reach the women’s 52 kg Wushu final at the World Games in Chengdu, China, defeating Philippines’ Krizan Faith Collado 2-0.

    This assured India’s first-ever World Games medal in Wushu, with at least a silver guaranteed. She will face Mengyue Chen of China in the final.

    Earlier, Rishabh Yadav secured India’s first individual medal at the 2025 Games with bronze in men’s compound archery. Batra recently won gold at the Moscow Star International Wushu Championship ahead of the Games.

  • U.S.-Russia Peace Talks on Ukraine to Begin in Saudi Arabia

    U.S. and Russian officials will meet in Saudi Arabia to initiate talks aimed at ending the nearly three-year-long war in Ukraine. However, Ukraine has not been invited and will not engage with Russia without consulting its strategic partners.

    The talks, facilitated by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other officials, aim to set up a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. Trump, who took office on January 20, has pledged to quickly end the war but has excluded European allies from the peace process.

    Russia has insisted Ukraine cede territory and remain neutral, while Ukraine demands Russia withdraw from occupied regions and seeks NATO membership or similar security guarantees. Meanwhile, the U.S. and Ukraine are negotiating a deal granting U.S. companies significant stakes in Ukraine’s critical minerals, though Zelenskiy has raised concerns over security provisions in the draft agreement.
