Raj Kumar Goyal Appointed as Chief Information Commissioner of India

Raj Kumar Goyal, a retired 1990-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, was sworn in as India’s new Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) on 15 December 2025 at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The oath of office and secrecy was administered by President Droupadi Murmu in the presence of senior dignitaries.

Before his appointment, Goyal served as Secretary, Department of Justice under the Ministry of Law and Justice and earlier as Secretary (Border Management) in the Ministry of Home Affairs. With over three decades of experience in public administration, he brings extensive expertise in governance, justice, and internal security.

His name was recommended by a high-level selection committee chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with Home Minister Amit Shah and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi as members.

Goyal’s appointment is significant as it restores the Central Information Commission to full operational strength after nine years. His leadership is expected to strengthen the implementation of the Right to Information Act, 2005, enhancing transparency and accountability in Indian governance.

    Registration for Char Dham Yatra

    To participate in the Yatra, registration is mandatory. Here’s how you can register:

    Online Registration:

    • Visit the official website: registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in.
    • Create an account and provide your personal details, including a valid ID proof (Aadhaar, Passport, etc.).
    • Select your preferred dates and complete the process by downloading your e-pass.

    Offline Registration:

    • Visit designated counters in cities like Haridwar, Rishikesh, or Dehradun.
    • Provide your documents and receive a QR code or registration letter.

    The Yatra begins with the opening of the Gangotri and Yamunotri Dhams on April 30, followed by Kedarnath on May 2 and Badrinath on May 4.

    An Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent has arrived at Mont-de-Marsan Air Base, France to participate in the bilateral air exercise Garuda-2025, scheduled from 16 to 27 November. The exercise reflects the strong strategic partnership between India and France in defence and security.

    It will involve IAF’s Su-30 MKI aircraft operating with French Rafale fighters in a simulated combat environment, aimed at enhancing interoperability, sharing best practices, and strengthening defence cooperation between the two air forces.

    On 3 October 2025, The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced significant reforms to make its recruitment exams more transparent, secure, and candidate-friendly.

    Transparency: Candidates can now view their question papers, responses, and correct answers. Selected past papers will also be published as official sample sets. Restrictions apply only during ongoing multi-shift exams.

    Candidate Welfare: Fee for challenging questions has been reduced from ₹100 to ₹50. A grievance redressal portal has been launched alongside a toll-free helpline.

    Fairness in Evaluation: Introduction of equi-percentile normalization to remove variations across exam shifts.

    Security Measures: Aadhaar-based authentication to prevent impersonation, digital vault for secure paper transmission, and IT agency support to prevent hacking.
