Thailand-Cambodia Agree to Ceasefire After Deadly Border Clashes

In a major diplomatic breakthrough, Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to an unconditional ceasefire starting 28 July 2025, following five days of deadly border clashes that caused dozens of deaths and displaced tens of thousands.

  • The announcement was made by Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim at a press conference in Putrajaya, alongside Cambodian PM Hun Manet and Thai Acting PM Phumtham Wechayachai.
  • Military commanders from both countries will begin talks on Tuesday to ease tensions.
  • Cambodia will host a border committee meeting on 4 August.
  • Foreign and defense ministers of Malaysia, Cambodia, and Thailand will draft a mechanism to implement and monitor the ceasefire, aiming for lasting peace in the region.
