“Shatavari – For Better Health” Campaign Launched

On February 6, 2025, the Ministry of Ayush launched a nationwide species-specific campaign titled “Shatavari – For Better Health” to promote awareness of the medicinal benefits of Shatavari, particularly for women’s health. The event was led by Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State (IC), along with senior ministry officials.

The campaign aligns with India’s Panch Pran Goal for a developed nation by 2047, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Shatavari has been recognized as a key resource in improving women’s health.

Key highlights:

  • NMPB’s Contribution: The National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) has previously conducted similar campaigns for Amla, Moringa, Giloe, and Ashwagandha.
  • Financial Support: ₹18.9 Lakhs will be provided to eligible organizations to promote Shatavari’s cultivation and usage.
  • Long-term Impact: The campaign will aid in public awareness, sustainable management, and conservation of medicinal plants, reinforcing traditional medicine’s role in India’s healthcare.

This initiative strengthens the Ministry of Ayush’s ongoing efforts in promoting medicinal plants and holistic well-being across the nation.

  • India Becomes First Country to Launch Genome-Edited Rice Varieties

    India has become the first country in the world to develop and release genome-edited rice varieties, marking a significant milestone in agricultural innovation. On May 4, 2025, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched two new varieties developed by ICAR institutions in New Delhi.

    The two rice varieties are:

    • DRR Dhan 100 Kamala – derived from Samba Mahsuri, matures 15–20 days earlier, and yields 25% more than conventional varieties.
    • Pusa DST Rice 1salinity and alkalinity tolerant, offering 30% higher yields in saline conditions.

    These varieties are designed for states like Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh. Their cultivation over 5 million hectares is projected to produce an additional 4.5 million tons of paddy.

    The innovation is seen as a crucial step toward climate-resilient, high-yield agriculture, potentially triggering a second green revolution in India.

  • Exercise KONKAN-2025 – Strengthening India-UK Naval Partnership

    The India-UK naval exercise KONKAN-2025 began on 5 October 2025 off India’s western coast, strengthening maritime cooperation under the India-UK Vision 2035. Conducted in two phases till 12 October, it includes harbour activities like professional exchanges and sea drills on anti-air, anti-surface, and anti-submarine warfare.

    The exercise features INS Vikrant from India and the UK Carrier Strike Group (HMS Prince of Wales), with participation from Norway and Japan. Afterward, the UK group will hold a joint drill with the Indian Air Force on 14 October 2025.

  • 150 Years of “Vande Mataram” (1875–2025)

    India has launched a year-long national celebration (Nov 7, 2025–Nov 7, 2026) to mark 150 years of “Vande Mataram”, the national song composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1875. The celebration began in New Delhi, with the Prime Minister unveiling a commemorative coin and stamp.

    Events include mass singing, cultural programs at historic sites, and educational outreach to highlight the song’s historical and patriotic significance.

    “Vande Mataram,” first featured in Anandamath, became a symbol of unity and resistance during India’s freedom struggle, embraced by leaders like Rabindranath Tagore and Subhas Chandra Bose. Declared the national song in 1950, it continues to inspire national pride and unity across generations.

  • National Mathematics Day 2025: Celebrating the Legacy of Srinivasa Ramanujan

    National Mathematics Day is observed every year on 22 December to commemorate the birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan, one of India’s greatest and most influential mathematicians. The day highlights the importance of mathematics in scientific advancement, innovation, and everyday life.

    The observance was instituted by the Government of India in December 2011, officially designating 22 December as National Mathematics Day in recognition of Ramanujan’s extraordinary contributions to number theory, mathematical analysis, and infinite series. To further promote mathematical learning and research, 2012 was celebrated nationwide as the National Mathematics Year.

  • Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden Srinagar 2026: Asia’s Largest Tulip Garden Opens with 1.8 Million Flowers

    The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar, Asia’s largest tulip garden, opened on March 16, 2026, marking the beginning of the Kashmir Tulip Festival 2026. Spread across 74 acres at the foothills of the Zabarwan Range overlooking Dal Lake, the garden features over 1.8 million tulips in 70–75 varieties, creating a vibrant spring attraction.

    The festival showcases Kashmiri culture, music, handicrafts, and cuisine, and signals the start of the tourist season in Kashmir. Established in 2007, the garden plays a key role in boosting tourism and the local economy, attracting visitors from across India and abroad.
