World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2025 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi from March 11

The World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2025 is set to be a landmark event in the world of para-athletics. Hosted at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, India, from March 11 to 13, this event marks India’s first major international para-athletics competition.

A total of 283 para-athletes from 20 countries will compete in 90 athletics events, making it one of the largest para-athletics events ever hosted by India. The Indian contingent, led by Paralympic gold medallists Praveen Kumar, Navdeep Singh, and Dharambir, will be looking to make a strong impression on home soil.

The Grand Prix serves as a preparatory tournament for the World Para Athletics Championships later this year, adding an extra layer of significance to the competition. Notable international athletes, including Australia’s three-time Paralympic champion Vanessa Low and Brazil’s speedsters Joeferson Marinho and Bartolomeu Chaves, will also be participating.

    The Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar (RVP) 2025 honored 24 individuals and one team for their outstanding contributions to science, technology, and innovation. The Vigyan Ratna, awarded posthumously to renowned astrophysicist Dr. Jayant Vishnu Narlikar, recognized lifetime achievement in science, while Dr. S. Venkata Mohan, Director of CSIR-NEERI, received the Vigyan Shri for his pioneering work in environmental biotechnology.

    Instituted by the Government of India, the RVP is a national-level award modeled on the Padma Awards and celebrates excellence across four categories — Vigyan Ratna, Vigyan Shri, Vigyan Yuva, and Vigyan Team. Announced on October 25, 2025, by the Principal Scientific Adviser, the awards aim to promote scientific innovation, youth engagement, and interdisciplinary research aligned with India’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and technology-driven growth.

  • India Sets Up First Equine Disease-Free Compartment (EDFC) in Meerut

    India has established its first Equine Disease-Free Compartment (EDFC) at the RVC Centre & College in Meerut Cantonment, Uttar Pradesh, officially recognized by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).

    The EDFC was created through collaboration between the Department of Animal Husbandry, Ministry of Defence, Equestrian Federation of India (EFI), and Uttar Pradesh Government.

    The facility ensures biosecurity, veterinary surveillance, and disease exclusion as per WOAH standards. It has been certified free from major equine diseases like:

    • Equine Infectious Anemia
    • Equine Influenza
    • Equine Piroplasmosis
    • Glanders
    • Surra

    India is also free from African Horse Sickness since 2014.

    🔹 This recognition allows Indian sport horses to compete internationally and promotes equine trade and breeding.
    🔹 The EDFC success complements India’s efforts to create HPAI-Free Compartments for poultry exports.
    🔹 It positions India as a leader in animal health systems, aligning with global biosecurity and trade standards.

  • India Achieves 20% Ethanol Blending in Petrol — 5 Years Ahead of Target

    India has achieved 20% ethanol blending in petrol in 2025, five years ahead of its original 2030 target, announced Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. Ethanol blending rose from 1.5% in 2014 to 20% in 2025, marking a significant clean energy milestone.

    This shift has led to major economic and environmental benefits:

    • ₹1.36 lakh crore saved in foreign exchange by reducing crude oil imports
    • ₹1.96 lakh crore paid to distilleries, boosting the biofuel sector
    • ₹1.18 lakh crore disbursed to farmers, enhancing rural incomes
    • 698 lakh tonnes of CO₂ emissions reduced, aiding climate goals

    Ethanol is mainly derived from sugarcane and molasses, reinforcing its role in supporting agriculture. The Union Cabinet has also approved a price hike for ethanol for the 2024–25 Ethanol Supply Year, benefiting farmers and distillers further.

  • Varun Tomar becomes national shooting champion by winning the Men’s 10-meter Air Pistol finals

    In the 67th National Shooting Championship 2024, Varun Tomar of the Indian Army emerged as the national shooting champion by winning the Men’s 10-meter Air Pistol finals at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi on January 5, 2025.

    His teammate, Pradhyumn Singh, won the Silver medal, while Aakash Bhardwaj from Rajasthan secured the Bronze medal.

    Varun Tomar also triumphed in the Men’s Junior 10-meter Air Pistol event, winning the Gold medal, with Nikhil from Uttar Pradesh winning Silver and Pradhyumn Singh taking Bronze.

    In the Men’s Youth 10-meter Air Pistol event, Chirag Sharma from Uttar Pradesh won the Gold medal, Dev Pratap, also from Uttar Pradesh, won Silver, and Mayank Choudhary of Rajasthan secured the Bronze medal.
