World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2025 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi from March 11

The World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2025 is set to be a landmark event in the world of para-athletics. Hosted at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, India, from March 11 to 13, this event marks India’s first major international para-athletics competition.

A total of 283 para-athletes from 20 countries will compete in 90 athletics events, making it one of the largest para-athletics events ever hosted by India. The Indian contingent, led by Paralympic gold medallists Praveen Kumar, Navdeep Singh, and Dharambir, will be looking to make a strong impression on home soil.

The Grand Prix serves as a preparatory tournament for the World Para Athletics Championships later this year, adding an extra layer of significance to the competition. Notable international athletes, including Australia’s three-time Paralympic champion Vanessa Low and Brazil’s speedsters Joeferson Marinho and Bartolomeu Chaves, will also be participating.

  • Nepal Withdraws Social Media Ban After Deadly Protests

    On 8 Sept 2025, the Nepal government withdrew its decision to ban 26 social media platforms, including Facebook and X, after massive youth-led protests turned violent, leaving at least 19 people dead and over 300 injured. Minister for Communication and Information Prithvi Subba Gurung announced the rollback after an emergency Cabinet meeting, saying agencies had been ordered to resume social media services as demanded by ‘Gen Z’ protesters in Kathmandu. The demonstrations had escalated after some protesters stormed the Parliament complex, forcing police to use water cannons, tear gas, and even live rounds.

    Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli promised an investigation into the deadly crackdown, announcing relief for victims’ families and free treatment for the injured. Curfews had earlier been imposed in several major cities to contain unrest. Meanwhile, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak resigned on moral grounds amid widespread criticism over the handling of what is being called one of Nepal’s deadliest protests in recent years.

  • Namo Bharat Train Begins Final Trial Run to Modipuram on Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor

    The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) began trial runs of the Namo Bharat train on May 1, 2025, on the final stretch of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, reaching Modipuram, the last station. This marked the first trial run through the underground section of Meerut, a major milestone in linking central Meerut with Delhi via high-speed rail.

    Previously, trials were conducted only on either side of the currently operational segment between New Ashok Nagar–Sarai Kale Khan and Meerut South–Shatabdi Nagar. Civil work, electrification, track laying, and signalling have been completed along the full stretch from New Ashok Nagar to Modipuram.

    The National Archives of India launched a new book titled “Ramanujan: Journey of a Great Mathematician” on 30 April 2025 at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi. The book highlights Srinivasa Ramanujan’s life, tracing his journey from Erode, Tamil Nadu, to becoming a pioneer in number theory, infinite series, and continued fractions. Despite minimal formal training, Ramanujan’s work still influences modern mathematics. The book also serves as a tribute to his passion and perseverance, aiming to inspire future generations.

    In addition, the National Archives launched Abhilekh Patal Version 3.0, a revamped digital platform for historical records, and announced it had received ISO Certification, reinforcing its commitment to archival excellence and accessibility.

  • National Security Guard (NSG) Raising Day – October 16

    National Security Guard (NSG) Raising Day is observed every year on October 16 to commemorate the formation of India’s elite counterterrorism and special operations force, known as the Black Cats.

    The NSG was established on October 16, 1984, after Operation Blue Star, to combat terrorism and ensure internal security. It functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs and is renowned as the “Zero Error Force” for its precision, discipline, and courage.

    The day honors the valor and sacrifices of NSG personnel through ceremonies, parades, and tributes at its main base in Manesar, Haryana.
