On 2nd September 2024, the Cabinet Committee on Security approved the procurement of 240 aero-engines for the Indian Air Force’s Su-30 MKI aircraft from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

The deal is valued at over ₹26,000 crore, and the delivery is set to begin in one year, spanning over eight years. The engines will feature more than 54% indigenous content, with key components indigenised and manufactured at HAL’s Koraput division.
