India has made notable progress in the Network Readiness Index 2025 (NRI 2025), climbing four places to rank 45th among 127 economies, according to a report released on February 4 by the Portulans Institute, a Washington DC–based non-profit research organization.
The index evaluates countries across **four pillars—Technology, People, Governance, and Impact—**using 53 indicators to measure how effectively economies leverage information and communication technologies (ICT). Along with the ranking improvement, India’s overall score increased from 53.63 in 2024 to 54.43 in 2025, reflecting steady digital progress.
India achieved top global rankings in several key areas, including annual investment in telecommunication services, AI scientific publications, ICT services exports, and e-commerce legislation. The country also ranked second in FTTH/building internet subscriptions, domestic mobile broadband traffic, and international internet bandwidth, and third in domestic market scale and income inequality.
Overall, the NRI 2025 highlights India’s growing strength in leveraging digital technologies to support economic growth, innovation, and social development.
