World Telecommunication Day – May 17

World Telecommunication Day: Celebrated annually on May 17 since 1969 to commemorate the founding of ITU and the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865. Instituted by the Plenipotentiary Conference in Malaga-Torremolinos in 1973.

World Information Society Day: Established following the World Summit on the Information Society in November 2005. The UN General Assembly declared May 17 as World Information Society Day in March 2006, focusing on the importance of ICT and related issues raised by WSIS.
