The seventh edition of the Japan-India Maritime Exercise (JIMEX 23) was held in Visakhapatnam from 05-10 July 2023.
- JIMEX was established in 2012 and this edition marks its 11th anniversary.
- The exercise involved the Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) units led by RAdm Nishiyama Takahiro and Indian Naval ships led by RAdm Gurcharan Singh.
- Indian Naval assets included INS Delhi ( India’s first indigenously built Guided Missile Destroyer), INS Kamorta (Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette), INS Shakti (fleet tanker), a submarine, maritime patrol aircraft P8I and Dornier, ship-borne helicopters, and fighter aircraft.
- JMSDF was represented by the guided missile destroyer JS Samidare and its integral helicopters.
- The exercise focused on advanced-level exercises in all three domains of maritime warfare – surface, subsurface, and air.
