India’s public sector Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam will develop Arun-4, the second hydroelectric project in Nepal.

  • Nepal has decided to allow India’s Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) Ltd to develop a second hydroelectric project in the country.
  • SJVN is currently developing a run-of-river 900-MW Arun-III hydroelectric project located on the Arun River in eastern Nepal, scheduled for completion in 2024.
  • The draft project development agreement was approved at a meeting of the Nepal Investment Board chaired by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda.
  • The agreement will be signed with Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam of India to develop the 669 MW Lower Arun Hydroelectric Project in eastern Nepal.
