International Olympic Day 2023 : 23rd June

Olympic Day is a celebration of sport, health and togetherness. It invites all people around the world to be active and move with purpose on 23rd June every year. These days many people organize Olympic Day around the world to celebrate, including in the Olympic capital Lausanne, where the IOC is located.

Theme :

The theme of this year’s Olympic Day is ‘Let’s Move’ which aims to inspire people around the world to take out time for daily physical activity.

History :

Olympic Day commemorates the founding of the International Olympic Committee by Baron Pierre de Coubertin on 23 June 1894. The first Olympic Day was celebrated on 23 June 1948. Portugal, Greece, Austria, Canada, Switzerland, Great Britain, Uruguay, Venezuela and Belgium celebrated the Olympic Day in their respective countries, and at that time, IOC President Siegfried Edström gave a message to the youth of the world. In the 1978 edition of the Olympic Charter, the IOC recommended for the first time that all NOCs organize an Olympic Day to promote the Olympic Movement.
